10-Point Recap Of South Carolina's Spring Game
Day Two of this odyssey takes us to Columbia, well, not physically to Columbia because who would want that, but figuratively to the city once inhabited by the great American, Stephen Garcia. On to the review of Saturday's action...
- You had to know Steve Spurrier felt pretty good about his team this spring when he was asked on Thursday what he thought about playing Georgia later in the season rather than in the SEC opener: "I don't know. I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended."
- I never heard nor took the time to look up Mark Richt's response, but I think it was probably something like "Thanks for letting us know, officer. We'll send an assistant down there in about half an hour."
- Connor Shaw's non-Stephen Garcia-like performance (6 of 7, 128 yards, 2 TDs) allowed Spurrier's mind to immediately check out and begin thinking about his upcoming rounds at Augusta
- Oh, by the way, Marcus Lattimore's knee is healing nicely and he's discovered he might be much better know that he knows more about the offense and the existence of cold and hot tubs to help preserve his legs, something he sort of ignored his first two years
- In a beautiful contrast to Alabama's spring game, which saw its first score in the form of a safety in the second quarter, South Carolin's scoring opened with a 70-yard touchdown on the first play of the game ("PAAAAWWWWLLLLL, THAT'S FANCY PANTS FOOTBALL")
- I'm not sure if this is Connor Shaw's throwing motion or just a picture snapped while he tried to remember the Heisman pose:

- All of South Carolina's quarterbacks should agree to grow the Steve Tanneyhill this summer:

- While pleased with the passing game, Spurrier didn't have much to say in the form of compliments about his defense, but he did refrain from making a Tyrone Nix reference
- Yet, while pleased with the passing game, Spurrier couldn't resist a dig at something less than perfection: "...The quarterbacks picked them out well. That was surprising."
- I can't believe I made this 10 points when I could have stopped literally ANYWHERE before then
